Meghan Cleary <[omitted]@gmail.com>

Good evening, Section [omitted],

We've made it to the end of HLR's recruitment season! Thank you for bearing with me through all of these emails.

A few final points:

(1) Competition Tips Session and Subcite Training Session: Video Issues Fixed!

We have posted the videos of our tips sessions to YouTube, which should hopefully resolve the issues that some of you were having with them. All information regarding the Tips Sessions has been posted to the HLR website
  • The General Tips Session was held on Tuesday, April 14th from 3:30 - 5:30pm. Click here to access the video recording of the Tips Session, and here to access the information packet that was distributed.
  • The Subcite Training Session was held on Thursday, April 16th from 3:30 - 5:00pm. Click here to access the video recording of the Subcite Training Session, here to access the information packet and practice Subcite, and here to access the answer key for the practice Subcite.

(2) Frequently Asked Questions: To address some frequently asked questions that I've received:

FAQ 1: I have another commitment on the morning of Saturday, May 16th and cannot pick up my competition between 10am and noon.  Can I still take the competition?

Answer: Of course you can!  Three options are available for anyone who cannot pick up the competition during the designated time:
  1. Ask a friend to pick up the competition for you.  Anyone can pick up a competition for a 1L who cannot make the two-hour window, as long as that person brings the 1L's student ID or 8-digit HUID number.
  2. Sign up online for the Competition to be mailed to you. This costs $45, and someone must be available to sign for the delivery. Signups, which are due on May 8, can be completed here: HLR Competition Mail Request Form
  3. If you notify Jennifer Heath at lawrev@law.harvard.edu by May 1, we can arrange for someone to be at Gannett to provide a late pick-up on Saturday afternoon.
FAQ 2: I have religious/family/other commitments during the Competition week.  Is there any way I could get extra time?

Answer: No.  We do not offer extra time for any reason.  There is extra time built into the Competition week, so do not worry about being at a disadvantage if you have to miss a day for another commitment.  No 1L under any circumstances is permitted to pick up the competition early (before 10am on Saturday, May 16) or return it late (after noon on Saturday, May 23).

FAQ 3: My job starts during Competition week.  Should I still even bother taking it?

Answer: Yes!  We strongly encourage people not to work another job while taking the competition, but it is not impossible.  Your first step should be to ask your employer if they would allow you to start later (or work reduced hours).  Employers want you to do well on the competition, and they may be more flexible than you would think.

(3) Housing Extensions: The deadline for this is approaching! Housing extension applications are due on May 1, and can be submitted at the following link: Law Review Competition Housing Extension Form
